About the course
This course is for those who have some experience in film photography and darkroom processes. It focuses on refining existing skills and developing new techniques in traditional black-and-white photography using darkroom chemicals, enlargers, and photographic papers.
You will explore how to produce a cohesive body of photographic work, considering audience and genre.
The course is shaped by each learner’s interests, allowing you to deepen your practical understanding of photography as an artistic medium.
You will be taught in specialist art and design studios and supported by the course teacher through practical demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, group discussions and critiques.
You will require access to a device with an internet connection. You may be required to bring some materials to your first, and subsequent classes – details of this can be found in the ‘Entry Criteria’ section of this page. Please do not purchase any materials until your course is confirmed to run.
What you'll learn
Learning in this course is hands-on, and your skills will develop through practice, discovery, and engagement with materials and techniques.
If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Explore personal photographic ideas supported by research and references.
- Enhance darkroom and printing skills and techniques, to demonstrate the ability to produce quality photographic prints.
- Employ problem solving skills to create an independent and personal project of work.
