Chinese Advanced Step 2 Online (Tues & Thurs)

This online course is the second step in completing the advanced level in Chinese. In this course, you will learn to express your viewpoints for social, academic and professional purposes, recognise a wide range of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms, and produce clear, well-structured texts on complex subjects. The course focuses on language used in both formal and informal registers, helping you develop sophisticated communication skills while further strengthening your cross-cultural understanding.

There are 2 classes per week, each lasting 1 hour, spread across 10 consecutive weeks. Through online interactive activities, you will continue to strengthen your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Online class activities include short recitations, small-group role-plays, responses to short texts, listening to dialogue, and handwriting and typing practice. Cultural elements are integrated throughout the course to help you explore Chinese-speaking communities, everyday customs and social interactions. You can repeat this Advanced Step if you would like to consolidate your knowledge.

There is no textbook for this course. You will also need access to a computer equipped with a camera and microphone, a headset or earphones and a reliable internet connection.  

If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to

1. Discuss the environmental impact of modern industry.  2. Synthesise current arguments on artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity and the future.3. Discuss international relations, including issues of war and peace, and global inequality. 4. Demonstrate knowledge of Chinese traditions and history, including Chinese philosophy, the three major religions (Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism), and traditional Chinese art.

There are in-house teaching materials provided for this course, and you do not need to purchase any textbooks. 

This course is the second step on our advanced level and is open to anyone who completed Chinese Advanced Step 1 or equivalent. If you are unsure of your level, please reach out to the Confucius Institute for Scotland to arrange an assessment.
