Chinese Intermediate Step 3 (Monday)

This course is the third and final step in completing the intermediate level in Chinese. In this course, you will review the use of frequently used prepositions, adverbs and conjunction structures. You will learn how to talk about your hobbies and interests, discuss your viewpoints on jobs and the job market, and present information about events. You will also be introduced to classical Chinese and Chinese allegorical sayings.  

There are two hours of teaching per week over ten weeks. Through interactive classroom activities, you will further develop your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Typical class activities include listening to dialogue, small-group role-plays, responses to short texts, group discussions, and handwriting and typing practice. Cultural elements are integrated throughout the course to help you explore Chinese-speaking communities, everyday customs and social interactions.

You will need to buy a textbook (see below), and you will also need access to a computer or another device with an internet connection in order to use our learning platform.   

If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:

•    Explain your hobbies and interests.•    Discuss and compare different jobs and job markets. •    Describe and compare family structures and relationships. •    Present information about festivals and compare them with those of other countries.•    Demonstrate your understanding of Chinese history, tradition and modern society, including Confucius and Confucianism, traditional family values, festivals and celebrations, and the current job market.

This course is the third and final step on our intermediate level and is open to anyone who has completed Chinese Intermediate Step 2 or equivalent. If you are unsure of your level, please reach out to the Confucius Institute for Scotland to arrange an assessment.
