About the course

Build your drawing skills and deepen your understanding of media and materials.  

You will work through practical exercises, from observational studies to personal image creation and explore traditional techniques like shading, perspective, and figure drawing, alongside experimental approaches like mixed media and abstract interpretation.  

This is an opportunity to develop your visual language and push the boundaries of your practice, gaining confidence as you refine your style and approach.

You will be taught in specialist art and design studios and through practical demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, group discussions and critiques.  

Learners are responsible for purchasing their own materials. You may be required to bring some materials to your first, and subsequent classes. You will require access to a device with an internet connection. 

What you'll learn

Learning in this course is hands-on, and your skills will develop through practice, discovery, and engagement with materials and techniques.  

If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:  

  • Gather and analyse visual information through drawing, using contextual research to inform your approach and expand your understanding;
  • Demonstrate your practical drawing skills through exploring a range of techniques;
  • Identify an enhanced visual analysis and creative expression through practical exploration of materials and techniques, fostering problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate ideas visually, valuable across creative industries. 

Who the course is for

Ideal for those who have completed our Drawing for Beginners course, or those with some experience who wish to develop their drawing approaches and skills.

Learners with an enthusiasm for creative exploration or have a natural appreciation for colour, texture and form may find this course particularly rewarding. A willingness to experiment and express ideas visually is encouraged.

Entry criteria

Suitable for those who have completed our Drawing for Beginners course or those with some basic drawing experience who wish to develop their skills further. This course welcomes those with a vivid imagination and enthusiasm for creative exploration. This hands-on course requires no formal background in art or design.

There is no recommended reading with this course; however, your course teacher will guide you to relevant sources.

Reading, listening and communication skills are essential. You must be comfortable learning in English. You will need basic digital skills, such as using a computer and navigating a website, to access the learning materials.
