French Beginners Step 2 (Online)

This course is the second step to complete our beginner level in French.

In this course, which is taught in French, you will learn to present cities, give and ask directions; speak about everyday objects and talk about your daily routine; and describe people.

You will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in your weekly online classes, held on Zoom, and through further interactive and independent activities, on our learning platform, Canvas.

Class-based activities include speaking, small-group role-plays, listening to dialogues or watching video clips.

Because language learning requires regular practice, you will consolidate your skills with vocabulary, grammar and writing exercises between classes.

You will need access to a computer equipped with a camera and microphone, a headset or earphones and a reliable internet connection. You will be provided with all necessary course materials digitally.

Please note, you will need to buy a textbook to support your learning on this course. You will find details of this textbook in the ‘What you’ll learn’ section of the course overview. Please do not purchase any materials until your course is confirmed to run. You will require access to a device with an internet connection.

If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course you should be able to:

• Present cities and neighbourhoods
• Give and ask directions
• Go shopping for clothes and daily life items
• Talk about the weather and different types of climates
• Describe your daily routine
• Describe people, their physical characteristics and personalities

This course is the second step on our beginner level and is open to anyone who has completed  French Beginners Step 1 or equivalent. If you are unsure of your level for this language, please self-assess.

You will need to have reading, listening and communication skills, including the ability to understand detailed ideas and information presented verbally and in writing. You must be comfortable learning in English if it is not your first language. You will need basic digital skills, such as using a computer and navigating a website, to access the learning materials.
