Japanese Intermediate Step 5

This course is the fifth step to complete our intermediate level in Japanese.

In this course, which is taught in Japanese, you will consolidate your reading and writing skills using Kanji and Kana. You will also learn to talk about traditional Japanese theatre, talk about news stories, understand a review of an item and describe advantages and disadvantages.

You will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through a variety of learning activities in class and at home. Class-based activities include small-group role-plays, responding to short texts, listening to dialogues or watching video clips. Language learning requires regular practice, and you will consolidate your skills at home, with vocabulary, grammar and writing exercises.

Please do not purchase any materials until your course is confirmed to run. You will require access to a device with an internet connection.

If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course you should be able to:

• Talk about traditional Japanese theatre and characteristics of traditional entertainment
• Talk about news stories
• Understand a review of an item and describe advantages and disadvantages

This course is the fifth step on our intermediate level and is open to anyone who has completed Japanese Intermediate Step 4 or equivalent and is able to read and write using Kanji and Kana. If you are unsure of your level for this language, please self-assess.

You need to have completed Japanese Intermediate Step 4 or equivalent and be able to read and write using both Kanji and Kana.

You will need to have reading, listening and communication skills, including the ability to understand detailed ideas and information presented verbally and in writing. You must be comfortable learning in English if it is not your first language. You will need basic digital skills, such as using a computer and navigating a website, to access the learning materials.
