Learning for Sustainable Futures: Supporting People, Practice and Policy

Join this 7-week facilitated online course to engage with global sustainability issues and consider action for positive change in your personal and professional life.

The Scotland-specific modules offer:

• Live webinars to deepen understanding of where the Scottish curriculum and current Curriculum Improvement Cycle priorities sit within global polycrises
• A dedicated space for collaboration and reflections on pedagogy
• The opportunity to develop your own project or activity with support from a facilitator
• Signposting to resources and other professional learning opportunities.

The core 5 modules will support you to:

• Understand the urgency of sustainability issues through a holistic exploration of current global challenges
• Consider how we can all take positive personal or professional action towards sustainable futures
• Explore and share teaching and learning approaches to weaving and embedding sustainability-related skills, knowledge and values across your everyday professional practice.

The learning approach for this course aligns with the National Model of Professional Learning. Over 7 weeks, you will:

Critically reflect on:

• our collective understanding of sustainability and the need for action
• the role of personal values and frameworks for thinking when shaping responses to sustainability challenges
• opportunities for personal a professional action within your own context.

Gain a deeper understanding of:

• sustainability-related education and policy from global to Scottish contexts
• the interlinked nature of sustainability issues and responses
• how systems thinking and spheres of influence can support meaningful action.

Collaborate with others to:

• share perspectives, resources and approaches with educators from a range of contexts
• explore current priorities and practical challenges for Learning for Sustainability
• celebrate achievements and identify opportunities for continued collaboration, including through Learning for Sustainability Scotland’s established Community of Practice.

This course is for educators in Scotland in any formal or informal setting who want to collaborate across a community of practice to gain a better understanding of the values, skills and approaches at the heart of education for flourishing and just futures.
