About the course
Mixed media in art refers to using more than one material or technique in a single artwork.
In this course you will explore the creative possibilities of mixed media by developing a personal project. You’ll be encouraged to experiment with layering techniques using images, symbols, text, and transparencies. You’ll examine how different materials and processes can communicate meaning, and you’ll learn how to shape your ideas into a cohesive body of work.
You will be taught in specialist art and design studios and supported by the course teacher through practical demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, group discussions and critiques. You will require access to a device with an internet connection.
Learners are responsible for purchasing their own materials. You may be required to bring some materials to your first, and subsequent classes. Learn more about the materials required for this course here. Please do not purchase any materials until your course is confirmed to run.
What you'll learn
Learning in this course is hands-on, and your skills will develop through practice, discovery, and engagement with materials and techniques.
If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Use research and visual recording methods to explore and develop ideas for mixed media artwork, drawing on relevant visual or contextual references;
- Experiment with a range of materials and processes to create visually engaging studies and a series of finished mixed media works;
- Select, edit, and present your artwork effectively developing skills in decision-making, visual communication, and creative organisation that can support activities such as preparing a portfolio, curating a display, or pitching ideas in other creative or professional settings.
