Planning and Evaluating Your Teaching

 The principles underpinning the creation of a good learning environment are the same, whether you are designing a whole course or a single learning event, whether your teaching is in the 'classroom' or in a clinical space, and whether you are teaching in person or online. Acknowledging this wide range of individual components and contexts, the overarching aim of this course is to help you plan, and lay the foundations for, your teaching, and to consider what is important to you when evaluating it. 

This course is mapped to GMC Framework Area 2: "Establishing and maintaining an environment for learning". and can be taken on its own to support your professional development as a clinical educator, or as one of the six courses of the Clinical Educator Programme (CEP), which when completed will provide evidence that you have attained all of the GMC FAs for Supervisors.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Develop an environment that is conducive to learning
• Compose explicit learning objectives
• Select appropriate methods to undertake an effective evaluation of your teaching.

The Clinical Educator Programme (CEP) offers a suite of clinical education courses that are designed to develop the teaching skills of clinicians and academics who teach University of Edinburgh medical students and postgraduate medical trainees in south-east Scotland.
