About the course

In this course, you will examine the role that ‘God’ and religion have played in the development of political philosophy in the western tradition.

You will focus on notions of individual rights, debates surrounding how best to organise society and the nature of government, the perennial tension between church and state, and questions relating to the concept of human nature.

Through the study of key figures such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Luther and John Locke, you will explore the questions of ‘What is Political Philosophy?’ and ‘Why do we have religion?’.

Any essential or recommended reading will be shared by the course teacher once the course is confirmed to run. You will require access to a device with an internet connection.
