On this five-week course from the University of Edinburgh, become a go-to support for student teachers and equip yourself with mentorship skills that matter. As you progress in your professional development, you’ll explore your responsibility as a mentor and sharpen your interpersonal skills to support student teachers as they complete their placements and learning.

In this course, you will learn:

• What the responsibilities of a mentor are and the importance of professional standards for teachers
• Strategies to support beginning teachers, including scaffolding and fading
• Why good interpersonal skills are important and how to support student teachers from underrepresented groups
• Definitions and models of feedback and how to design feedback strategies 
• Ways to empower student teachers and promote their self-worth and self-efficacy

Open to new and experienced mentors, this course is tailored for Scottish teachers interacting with education students. 

Advanced: This course is open to School-Based Teacher Educator (SBTEs) in Scotland, including both new and experienced mentors.
