You will explore the captivating world of audio drama through an introduction to the nuances of writing for an auditory audience and gain the skills required to create striking audio narratives that resonate with listeners.
For both aspiring writers and those with some experience, you will craft compelling radio and podcast scripts using expert techniques, historical context, and practical exercises.
You will also develop skills in script layout, effective dialogue, and the strategic use of sound to engage listeners. Additionally, you will benefit from receiving feedback on their work and gain insights from collaborations with industry professionals.
Any essential or recommended reading will be shared by the course teacher once the course is confirmed to run.
You will require access to a device with an internet connection.
What you'll learn
If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Describe the scope and possibilities of drama for radio and podcasts, including how diverse narratives can enhance this genre of writing
- Critically evaluate audio drama scripts and assess their effectiveness
- Create and present a professional script for radio or podcasts, implementing inclusive practices to ensure diverse perspectives are authentically represented and sensitively portrayed in plot and character development

No prior knowledge is required, this course is suitable for both aspiring writers and those with some experience.

Entry criteria
The course is suitable for those with no prior experience of university study.
You will need to have reading, listening and communication skills, including the ability to understand detailed ideas and information presented orally and in writing. You must be comfortable studying in English if it is not your first language. You will need basic digital skills, such as using a computer and navigating a website, to access the study materials.
