About the course
Develop your screenwriting skills and get professional insight to shape scripts that attract industry attention.
Through hands-on methods, you will explore structure, character, scene writing, dialogue and screen forms in detail. Through lectures, script and film analysis and group discussion, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of storytelling for the screen and learn to craft strong, marketable stories.
The course also includes dedicated time to write and refine your own script.
Any essential or recommended reading will be shared by the course teacher once the course is confirmed to run.
You will require access to a device with an internet connection.
What you'll learn
If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Identify and appreciate the complex elements that make a screenplay original compelling and market-ready;
- Develop an idea into a commercially viable story;
- Write with professional confidence;
- Write with genuine confidence and effect for film and television.
Who the course is for
Learners should have either a basic theoretical knowledge of screenwriting or some personal experience of writing scripts. It is an ideal continuation for those who have taken Writing for Film and Television: Step 1, but this is not a prerequisite.

Entry criteria
This course is suitable for those with no prior experience of university study.
Learners should have either a basic theoretical knowledge of screenwriting or some personal experience of writing scripts.
You will need to have reading, listening and communication skills, including the ability to understand detailed ideas and information presented verbally and in writing. You must be comfortable learning in English if it is not your first language. You will need basic digital skills, such as using a computer and navigating a website, to access the learning materials.
